About Dr Kang

Dr Kang studied Medicine in Birmingham University, graduating with an honours degree in 1973.  He trained in Gastroenterology at the General Hospital, Birmingham and the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.  In 1981 he joined the National University of Singapore as Lecturer in Medicine and subsequently became Consultant Gastroenterologist and Associate Professor of Medicine.  He emigrated back to Britain in 1995, and was Consultant Gastroenterologist at the James Paget Hospital, Norfolk.  Since 1999 he has been Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s Hospital and Queen Mary’s University Hospital, Roehampton.

Dr Kang’s clinical interests include dyspepsia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, other oesophageal conditions, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer screening.  He is actively involved in research in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, including Barrett’s oesophagus, diverticular disease of the colon, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal cancer.  He has published over 170 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. 

Dr Kang has had extensive experience in clinical Gastroenterology and endoscopy for more than 30 years.  He has performed more than 3,000 colonoscopies and over 9,000 gastroscopies with a significant complication rate of under 0.1%.

Dr Kang’s English wife of thirty years, Susan, has a nursing background and works as his private practice secretary.
